Stoic Saturday: Keep Doing

This writing is Certified Human

“No great thing is created suddenly.” — Epictetus

We should always be learning
Doing
Practicing
Honing.

To children, everything is new
They, like us, are bad at everything they try
Because it’s the first time.

They have a higher tolerance for frustration
Because they love the adventure of learning something new
They are not afraid of looking foolish while failing
So they fail until they don’t.

We forget what it’s like to do something new
Forget what it feels like to be bad at something
Because there is so much we are good at.

Our tolerance for frustration has us abandon new adventures
We fear looking foolish.

We must empty our cup
So that we can learn
Push past the frustration
So that we can move beyond being bad.

Be content to feel foolish
So that we can love the process.

Keep doing.

“If you want to improve, be content to be thought foolish and stupid.” — Epictetus
