Just A Little Longer

The Obstacle

Life comes in waves. Some waves are higher than others. At times, the seas can be calm, and it does not take much effort to stay above water.

Other times, the sea can be rough, and maintaining an upright position can take much effort. At other times, there are tsunamis or tidal waves, and it can be almost impossible to survive.

It's difficult to remember that calm seas are near when we're in the middle of a storm or caught in a tidal wave.

It's easy to think that this storm we're in is our life, not simply a part of our life that will pass.

Sometimes survival is all we can do, and maintaining high spirits, good relationships, and a positive mindset can take all we have and more.

The Gift and Opportunity

The sun always feels best after a long, dark winter.

We can use the hard times to harden ourselves and remember that better times are coming. We can remember that hard things make us strong in who we are.

We can remember that our busy seasons are stacking the firewood for what's to come.

We work through what we must and survive when we must, knowing that calm waters are ahead. We can do what has been left undone when the time comes. Now is not forever.

We just have to wait a little longer.

The Practice of Self-Mastery

• Accept what is

• Protect what matters

• Do what we can

• Wait a little longer

CHEAT CODE: ACCEPT → PROTECT → DO → WAIT

The Why

Things are busy in my life right now. Very busy.

Both of my children are on three teams. I'm coaching baseball, running a business, trying to prepare for winter, shutting down a cabin, hoping to have time to hunt, all while trying to do projects, remain present with my family, and enjoy my life.

I can get frustrated sometimes by the lack of progress on the projects and things that I want to do when they remain undone and feel like they're taking forever.

I can ask for help, reprioritize, or wait a little longer for things to settle down.

Summer is ending, fall is near, and winter is coming. The long, dark hours of winter will leave time for the things that are undone.

Everything else will get done somehow, some way, and I won't remember how much of a struggle it was just a few months from now.

I can refocus my energy and recalibrate my attitude to accept what is.

The most important thing is that I remain true to my values and maintain my relationships with my wife and children, staying present with them and enjoying our time together.

Everything else is secondary.

The things I want to do will get done. I might just have to wait a little longer.
