Mistakes Stacking

“Experience is simply the name we give our mistakes.” — Oscar Wilde

The Obstacle

We are human. We will make mistakes. Some big, some small. Some impact our lives, and others go unnoticed.

Rarely a day goes by without a mistake being made that is worth noticing.

We can stay there, contemplating, reliving, and shaming ourselves over it. We can deflect, become angry, and displace our internal frustration onto others.

We can waste time and energy, and spoil relationships, by lingering on the mistake.

That does not help us move forward.

One mistake can lead to many.

The Gift and Opportunity

Mistakes can be let go. Mistakes can be understood.

Mistakes can give us insight into what skills we need to build.

Mistakes can bridge gaps and help relationships when we learn from them instead of repeating them.

Mistakes can be opportunities rather than setbacks.

The Practice of Self-Mastery

• Recognize the mistake

• Understand what happened

• Learn what is needed

• Move forward

CHEAT CODE: RECOGNIZE → UNDERSTAND → LEARN → MOVE

The Why

I didn't feel so good and had trouble sleeping last night. I woke up this morning a bit foggy and started making simple mistakes that began to compound.

I felt myself becoming derailed, off target, and off focus.

I had to take a break and step back. I had to look at what the mistakes were teaching me and how to move past them so they didn't anchor me.

I could have let my frustration impact the people I talked to and the relationships closest to me.

Instead, I was able to identify what was happening and move forward.
