Try Not Having One
“People are disturbed not by things, but by the views they take of them.” — Epictetus
The Obstacle
We Experience People
Interactions
Their Opinions
Being Rude
Their Tone
Their Intentions
Being In A Hurry
Not Doing Things All The Way
How They Treat Us And Others
Being human.
We Experience Circumstances
Things Do Not Go Our Way
Weather
Traffic
Setbacks
Struggles
Events Happen As They Will
Not As We Would Will Them.
We Provide Our Opinion On Everything
Internally and Verbally.
It Is Seldom The Person
Their Idea
Their Thoughts
Or Actions
Are Bad.
Our Opinions
Make Them So.
Circumstances Do Not Align Each Moring
To Vex Us
The Universe
Or God
Has Not Willed It Against Us
Simply To Make Us Miserable.
It Is Our Opinions
That Do So.
We Feel
We Must Have An Opinion
About Everything
And Everyone
And It Is That
Which Brings About
Misery.
Try Not Having One.
The Gift and Opportunity
People Are The Way They Are
People Do As They Have Always Done
And As They Always Will.
Events Unfold
As They Will.
Circumstances
Are What They Are.
It Is Not Peoples General Intent
To Make Our Lives Difficult.
It Is Certainly Not The Intent
Of The Universe
Or God
To Get In Our Way
To Make Everything
Take More Time Than It Should
To Frustrate
To Irritate
Or Complicate.
What Is Is.
We Could Try
To Not Have An Opinion
About Everything
And Everyone.
To See Things
For What They Are
Absent Of Our Opinion Of Them.
Today
We Can Try
To Not Have An Opinion.
To Be Curious
To See Things How They Are
And Not
The Way We Wish They Were.
We Can Free Ourselves
Of Our Own Opinion
Our Own Misery
Our Own Expectations
And Simply Be.
Today Try Not Having One.
The Practice of Self-Mastery
• Notice The Impulse To Form An Opinion
• Experience As Though You Are A Spectator
• Separate What Is Happening From What You Are Adding
• Respond To Reality As It Is
CHEAT CODE: NOTICE THE OPINION → LET IT GO → SEE WHAT IS
