What’s The Worst That Can Happen?

“Man is not worried by real problems so much as by his imagined anxieties about real problems.” — Epictetus

The Obstacle

We worry
Stress
Create scenarios
Project into the future.

All the ways
All the things
Could go wrong.

The project failing
The relationship ending
The job.

Even little things
What to eat
Where to go
What others might think
The traffic
What to bring on vacation.

Constant worry and stress
Over things
We cannot control.

But what’s the worst that can happen?

The Gift and Opportunity

We stress
Plan
Worry.

Because we care.

But there is little we can do
To control anything.

We are not in control of most things.
Yet we worry over control
We cannot have.

Everything in life
Can be turned
Into a gift and opportunity.

No matter what happens
It can become
Knowledge
Skill
An opportunity.

To avoid something worse in the future

If the project fails
A lesson learned
For a bigger project down the road.

Traffic
A new scenic route.

A job ending

Doing something we love instead.

If you find yourself worrying
Play it out to the worst case scenario
Then find a gift
Or an opportunity
Even when the worst happens.

The Practice of Self-Mastery

  • Notice projecting and stress

  • Separate what you can and can’t control

  • Play out the worst case

  • Identify the lesson, skill, or opportunity.

CHEAT CODE: NOTICE STRESS →PLAY IT OUT → FIND THE GIFT
