Batter Up

“You can’t steal second base and keep your foot on first.” — Frederick B. Wilcox

The Obstacle

We take swings
And miss.

Even the best batters
Only get on base a third of the time.

We swing
We miss.

No two pitches are the same.

It can be difficult to remember
Most swings aren’t hits
Even fewer home runs.

So
We would rather not try
Not fail.

It’s wasn’t always like this
There was a time
We just swung for fun..

Now
Striking out
Leaves us feeling
Less than.

We grow older
Fall into routines
Avoid altogether.

Our relationships suffer from lack of trying
Lack of creating newness
Lack of willingness to fail

We would rather not miss
So we don’t try.

The Gift And Opportunity

The pitches will keep coming.

We only need to stand in
Keep swinging.

Remind ourselves
The best fail
Far more often than they succeed
But they
Keep swinging.

We are not here to perform
Be the best
Make every hit
Hit home runs.

We are here to have fun
To take our swings
To take chances
Run the bases.

Take the pitches as they come.

Keep swinging
Hit what we can.

Batter up.

The Practice Of Self-Mastery

• Stand in
• Take the next swing
• Hit some, miss some
• Play the game

CHEAT CODE: STEP IN → SWING → MISS OR HIT → PLAY THE GAME
