“Nothing can cure the soul but the senses, just as nothing can cure the senses but the soul.” — Oscar Wilde

The Obstacle
We’re trapped in our head all day long, evaluating, judging, rationalizing, calculating, thinking, overthinking, and analyzing.
We find ourselves in a constant state of evaluation, learning, and living inside of our own head.
Our ancestors would have been constantly in their bodies, moving, working, hunting, building, and surviving.
Because of our comfort, we spend very little time in our bodies unless it’s intentional.
Much of the anxiety and stress we feel comes from not escaping our heads as often as we should.
The Gift And Opportunity
We don’t have to live in our heads all day, every day.
We can schedule mini vacations from our brain to our body, intentionally setting time aside to escape our head and go into our body.
From head to toes, toes to head, or any place in between.
It only takes a few moments to remember that we are one large organism and that we do not have to remain stuck in our thoughts or our head.
The Practice Of Self-Mastery
• Close the eyes
• Slowly scan the body
• Notice where attention settles

The Why
I tend to overthink most things.
I will study, evaluate, compare, research, and analyze anything I am thinking about doing, saying, learning, or purchasing.
I can get stuck in a constant state of overanalyzing.
I also find myself judging and having an opinion about how everyone else is acting, thinking, or behaving.
This leaves me in a constant state of frustration, anxiety, judgment, or need for perfection and control.
If I don’t naturally break myself out of it, I’ll stay here all day, every day, and wind up a mess of nerves and frustration.
This not only hurts my performance by overanalyzing and carrying too much, it also crushes my relationships.
If I’m not careful, I come across as condescending, as if nothing is good enough unless it’s my way.
When I remember to get out of my head and into my body often, it’s easier to break this ritual and habit.
