“Love only what happens to you and is spun for you by fate. For what could more aptly fit your needs?” — Marcus Aurelius

The Obstacle
Much in life we approach with fear. We don't look forward to certain conversations, doing certain things, or going certain places.
We are constantly on the lookout for what is not right and how it could go wrong. We see the obstacles and the struggles ahead.
We buck against our commitments and the time we have to spend doing things we wouldn't necessarily choose.
We make those tasks and commitments more miserable than they have to be by adding our own suffering.
We don't execute as well as we could because some of our energy is focused on where we'd rather be or what we'd rather be doing.
Our relationships are not as rich as they could be because people sense that we'd rather be somewhere else.
The Gift and Opportunity
We can understand that there is no other place to be than where we are.
What we have to do needs to get done regardless of whether we want to do it or not.
Instead of searching for all the ways it's wrong, all the things we'd rather be doing, or all the other conversations we'd rather have, we can lean into it.
We can instead search for the good and what we can love about the process of learning, struggling, doing, or finishing.
We can find the good in where we are, what we're doing, and who we're with.
When we do this, we're not adding suffering to an already miserable task.
We can execute better by getting our energy back from wishing we were somewhere else and putting it into what we're doing.
The people we're with will know that we're present and not mentally pulled somewhere else.
We can learn to love it.
The Practice of Self-Mastery
• Accept where we are
• Find the good
• Put our energy there
• Love it
CHEAT CODE: ACCEPT → FIND → FOCUS → LOVE
The Why
There is a lot in my life I don't get to choose. Many projects, tasks, responsibilities, and obligations would not be my choice.
When I am lamenting what I wish I was doing instead of focusing on what I am doing, I don't perform as well as I could. My energy is split.
When I'm wishing I was somewhere else, the people I'm with can sense that. They know I am not loving being where I am.
Instead, I can accept that what is, is, and pour all of my energy into finding the good where I currently am.
There's always something to love about what I'm doing or who I'm with.
