“Waste no more time arguing what a good man should be. Be one.” — Marcus Aurelius

The Obstacle
We can get stuck accumulating a lot of bad habits.
Little things stack up and force multiply to make us less than we could be.
We eat too much, drink too much, waste too much time on social media, argue too much.
This takes away from the time we could be spending becoming a better version of who we could be.
The time we spend on the stuff that tears us down takes away from the time we spend building ourselves up.
These small habits accumulate over time, unnoticed.
One or two might not make a big difference, but all together they have a real impact on our wellness, relationships, and stress levels.
We can say no.
The Gift and Opportunity
We're spending time each day doing things. We can actively make choices about where and how we spend our time.
We can come up with a pass/fail for each thing that we do.
We can start saying no to the things that don't serve us so we have time for the things that do.
We can get better at telling ourselves no.
The Practice of Self-Mastery
• Audit what is stacking up
• Decide what makes the cut
• Say no to what does not serve us
• Make room for what does
CHEAT CODE: AUDIT → DECIDE → NO → MAKE ROOM
The Why
I had a shoulder injury many months ago, and it caused me to step back from working out as much as I was.
I filled that time doing other things that, while useful, do not help me live a healthier or happier life.
I've noticed how much has accumulated from putting things off with the excuse that I'm injured.
Those habits stuck around long after the injury actually prevented me from doing things.
I'm reordering my life this month to say no to the things that aren't serving me.
I'm not going all at once. I'm going one by one, taking a slow walk over the next month to audit and scan my life and figure out what makes the cut and what goes.
November will be the month of no.
