As You Work On It, It Works On You

“You become what you give your attention to.” — Epictetus

The Obstacle

Days are consumed by the urgent
Each little distraction eating minutes and hours.

It’s easy to simply drift
To wherever the wind takes us
To be beckoned by every call
Fighting one fire after the next.

Living this way feels easy
Comfortable
Predictable.

Even though it feels productive
We are failing to take agency in our own change.

Change will happen
With or without
Our attention and direction.

If we do not set intention
We do not set the course.

The Gift and Opportunity

We should be setting the sails
Tightening the lines
Pointing the rudder.

We are the lead author
In  how the story of our own change is written.

How we change
For what reasons
The person we become
Needs to be decided by us.

We can set a practice
And work on it.

As we work on it
It works on us.

The Practice of Self-Mastery

  • Decide what you are intentionally training to become

  • Find a daily practice and stick to it

  • Allocate time and energy toward what is important

CHEAT CODE: SET THE COURSE→ TRAIN DAILY → WRITE YOUR STORY
