Thank Your Body

“Treat your body rigorously so that it may not be disobedient to the mind.” — Seneca

The Obstacle

We get older
We look in the mirror
See the age
Wrinkles
Hair
Skin
Appearance
The change.

We wish we were stronger
Thinner
More sculpted
Youthful.

We may be slowing down
Wishing we were faster
Quicker
More agile
More durable.

We do not heal like we used to

Our bodies are not what they once were
No longer made of rubber bands and magic.

And yet this body
Is the only one we have.

The Gift and Opportunity

Our bodies have carried us this far
They have endured
They have shown us the world we know
Moved
Felt
Expressed
Loved.

Our bodies have been
Beaten
Broken
Cut
Burned
Fallen ill
Taken for granted.

And yet
Here we are
Alive.

How can something nurture us
If we do not nurture and love it?

We give it
Too little rest
Too much food
Too much drink
Too much of what we don’t need
Too little of what we do.

Despite this
It endures
Heals
Loves.

Nurture and love your body.

Give thanks for this marvelous vessel.

The Practice of Self-Mastery

  • Look upon your body with admiration

  • Feed it good thoughts

  • Have gratitude for what it has given

  • Have wonder at it’s resilience

CHEAT CODE: NOTICE THE SCORN→ REPLACE WITH GRATITUDE → REMEMBER THE RESILIENCE
