A Leader In Control
“Receive without pride, let go without attachment.” — Marcus Aurelius

The Obstacle
Empathy is the key
The subtle knock
It allows for an invitation in
For conversation
And understanding.
The Controller does not wait
For an invitation
It does not knock
Use a key
Or seek understanding.
It’s not that the Controller
Does not care
It simply does not consider
Taking the time to understand.
The Controller inside us
Desires to have the controls
At all times
It wrestles for the steering wheel
Only it knows how to drive
To be in control.
It forgets its place
It’s turn in line
The proper order of things.
It does not understand
Real power comes from understanding.
It does not know
The shortest way
Comes through understanding
That nothing can truly be controlled
Unless others feel included.
The Controller leaves others feeling
Left out
Uncertain
Inadequate
Not good enough.
They don’t know we care
When we need constant control.
The Gift And Opportunity
Would you rather they know
You are right
Or know that you care?
There are times when it is best
To take control.
Even in those times
To get the most out of
Others
Performance
And the best outcome
Empathy cannot be forgotten.
When others learn we will always take control
They will stop sharing
Caring
Contributing.
We will be leaned on
Control will be expected
For all things
Large and small.
Leaving us no time or energy
For what needs controlled
The high value
High return
Tasks and circumstances.
Empathy comes through understanding
Not agreeing
Accepting
Or condoning.
Once someone feels heard
They will listen.
It is the shortest path
The way of the leader.
The Practice Of Self-Mastery
Expect the need to control
Feel the hand on the wheel
Ask to understand
Wait for the invitation
CHEAT CODE: NOTICE → EXPECT→ LISTEN → ASK → LEAD
