The Obstacle

Motivation fades. Determination falters.

It’s difficult to do the things we need to do when we’re tired, sore, sick, or unmotivated.

The day will grind past. The hours will turn. And we will keep moving forward in some way or another because time does not wait.

Some days it’s hard to be focused, to pay attention, to be as productive as we should be.

The mind wanders. The yawns come. And frustration waits.

The Gift And Opportunity

The day will unfold as it will.

Time will pass regardless of whether we want to be there or not.

We can choose to be where we are and do the best with what we have because we’re here anyway.

We don’t need motivation or determination.

We just need to take the next step and keep stepping.

We can keep marching forward at a steady pace, turning a lack of will into progress by doing what needs to be done in small increments.

The day may not be as productive as it should have or could have been, but it can still be a success if we keep taking a step forward.

The Practice Of Self-Mastery

• Notice the lack of will

• Break it down

• Take the next step

• Keep stepping

CHEAT CODE: NOTICE → BREAK IT DOWN → TAKE THE NEXT STEP → KEEP STEPPING

The Why

This was a long, fun weekend.

This morning I woke up tired and unmotivated.

This was a day it would have been nice to take off. A day when I just wanted to recover and do nothing.

The day had other plans and demanded that I be present, available, and productive.

I had to break things down into small steps, keeping focused on what was important and doing one little step at a time.

And by the time the day was half done, I got most of what needed to be done done.

Even managed to get a good workout in and feel as though the day was worthwhile.

There were times of frustration and wanting to call it in, but those didn’t last long because I was listening for them.

Made it through the day with something to show by putting one foot in front of the other.
