Focus In
“Lack of direction, not lack of time, is the problem. We all have twenty-four-hour days” — Zig Ziglar

The Obstacle
Busy seasons in life come and go. Mostly, they come.
They don’t seem to go as fast as they used to.
There’s always a lot going on. The summer brings especially busy times when you have kids and they’re out of school.
There’s travel. Projects. Time to spend with them that we won’t get back.
It can be difficult to prioritize projects, family, work, and personal responsibilities.
The balance can be difficult, if not impossible, to maintain.
We can feel overwhelmed and seemingly accomplish nothing because our focus is distracted and our attention scattered across too many domains.
If we’re not careful, this can take us away from being present, leave us feeling frustrated and anxious, and make us unable to enjoy the time that we actually have because we’re unable to focus in.
The Gift And Opportunity
We’re only given so many hours in the day, and we can only do so much.
If we can make shorter lists and focus on what’s important, we can allocate our time accordingly.
We can let go of the urgent and unimportant tasks to focus on what’s needed.
Not everything needs or deserves our attention or our time.
We can find places to trim the fat so that we’re not distracted doing things that don’t provide a return.
We can look at what we’re doing each hour and each day to make sure our focus stays on point and we’re able to maintain.
What is important is the time we spend with the ones we love, accomplishing the big things in our life, and not letting the meaningless things take priority.
Regardless, we can choose to be where we are, when we are, and who we’re with, so that in whatever we’re doing, we’re enjoying it and we’re present.
We can focus in on what matters.
The Practice Of Self-Mastery
• Notice the scattered attention
• Shorten the list
• Let go of what does not matter
• Focus in on what matters
CHEAT CODE: NOTICE → SHORTEN THE LIST → LET GO → FOCUS IN ON WHAT MATTERS
The Why
My life feels a bit like a tornado sometimes with all the projects, travel, and kid stuff that’s going on.
I have a business to build and run. Kids to pay attention to. Teams to coach.
We want to see friends, travel, and spend time at the lake while taking care of projects at home like the yard, my pool, and building out an office in the house.
All of this takes time, and there’s not enough time to do it all.
I can feel frustrated, overwhelmed, and worthless if I focus on everything that I’m not doing.
When I do that, my frustration, restlessness, and anxiety bleed into the places that I could be performing.
It also takes away from the relationships and the time that I spend with people because I’m thinking about something else.
I’m trying to prioritize and focus in, do the best I can with what I have, and maintain being present with the people that I’m with.
So that I can be happy and get the most out of what I can do when I can do it.
