Move On
“Do not be disgusted, discouraged, or dissatisfied if you do not succeed in doing everything according to right principles” — Marcus Aurelius

The Obstacle
We get down on ourselves and beat ourselves up for not doing enough. Not being enough.
We demand the most out of ourselves and demand that things be perfect.
We get frustrated when progress is slower than we’d like. When learning takes longer than we’d like.
We feel like we let ourselves and others down by not being good enough often enough.
Our performance takes a hit because we’re busy moping and being a victim.
Our relationships take hits because it’s hard to love someone who doesn’t love themselves.
When we’re stuck, the best thing to do is move on.
The Gift And Opportunity
We know things aren’t always going to be easy.
Things won’t always move in a straight line with constant progress.
We know things take longer than they should.
We know that when anything is being built or created, there is struggle, frustration, and anxiety.
The ones who are the greatest do something ordinary consistently for an extraordinary period of time.
Even if we’re slow, frustrated, and down on ourselves, we can remember to keep moving on. Pushing forward. Making progress.
The product is the result of the process and the practice.
The Practice Of Self-Mastery
• Notice the frustration
• Stop moping
• Move on
• Keep practicing
CHEAT CODE: NOTICE → STOP MOPING → MOVE ON → KEEP PRACTICING
The Why
Building something from scratch takes longer than I anticipate.
I try to budget extra time, anticipate the frustration, and understand that there are going to be setbacks along the way.
Still, it’s difficult to not become let down and disappointed in myself for not being where I’d like to be.
This shows itself many times throughout the year, whether it’s a physical skill, spiritual progress, emotional fortitude, or even a project like home improvement.
Things stutter and stall, take a frustratingly long time, and are disappointing.
This is no different when building a relationship or a business.
Where you’d like to be and where you are can feel worlds apart.
I have to remind myself to keep moving forward, learn as I go, and do the best with what I’m given.
Just because you feel one way doesn’t mean it will last.
Storms come and go.
We need to wait them out, dress of the weather, or keep moving.
