New Path

“It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare. It is because we do not dare that they are difficult” — Seneca

The Obstacle

There are things in life we must do, but we avoid: new ways of doing old things, releasing old habits, forming new habits and processes, learning new skills, gaining knowledge.

New things are difficult, scary, frustrating, and can bring anxiety.

We tend to avoid them, put them off, procrastinate, and give ourselves reasons to delay starting or to quit.

We fear rejection, failure, and frustration.

We might wait for others to be involved, to have support, because we fear going it alone.

Avoiding doesn’t make it easier, and it doesn’t make the stress or anxiety go away.

It just keeps building and stacking until we choose a new path.

The Gift And Opportunity

The only thing constant in life is change.

Everything changes.

We change.

As we grow and get older, different parts of life demand different things of us.

We need to reevaluate our schedule, attention, time allocation, knowledge, skills, and resources.

It’s an opportunity to grow, learn, and get better.

We can create new relationships, new ways of doing new things, and new ways of doing old things differently.

When we choose not to avoid and step onto the new path, we develop new habits, a new life, and a new version of us. One that better fits and serves our current place in time.

The Practice Of Self-Mastery

• Notice what is being avoided

• Take slow steps toward change

• Build the new habit

• Keep going down the new path

CHEAT CODE: NOTICE → SLOW STEPS → BUILD THE HABIT → KEEP GOING

The Why

My kids are getting older.

My business is growing and changing.

I need new skills and new ways of doing things in order to meet this season of life and continue to grow.

It’s easy to fall back on old habits and keep doing the same things the same way, expecting results that haven’t yet come.

It can be scary and difficult to start new endeavors, seek out new relationships, and find new ways of being.

It seems easier to avoid what must be done, to avoid the stress of struggling, being frustrated, and failing.

But the truth is, there’s more frustration, anxiety, and stress in not doing what needs to be done.

Slow steps toward change, walking down a new path, will soon become easier. They will become the new version of life and me.

It just needs to get started and keep going.
