Let It Be

The Obstacle
Nothing seems to go right.
Things never go as planned.
People do not do what we expect or what we think they should do.
Work keeps piling up.
Unexpected things happen on a constant basis.
We’re asked to do more with less and to solve the impossible.
It’s hard to perform well when we are under pressure and not given enough resources, understanding, or support to properly execute.
It’s hard to maintain good relationships when so much feels like it is conspiring against our plans.
It’s impossible not to be stressed out all the time when more is asked of us than we are capable of giving.
The Gift And Opportunity
There’s only so much time in a day, and there is only one of us.
We can only do what we can do, and there is no more than all we can give.
If we’re able to focus our attention and energy onto what we can control, without letting it bleed out into what we are unable to control, then we’ll be better able to perform.
If we can let go of the stress, frustration, anger, and resentment over the things we cannot do or control, we will have more time, patience, and energy to pour into what we’re able to control.
Releasing energy from places where it shouldn’t be going allows us to stop carrying the stress of trying to carry the things we can’t carry or don’t have the time, resources, knowledge, or skills for.
We don’t have to let it frustrate us, stress us, or ruin us.
The Practice Of Self-Mastery
• Focus on what can be controlled
• Let go of what is out of control
• Release energy from where it shouldn’t be going
• Don’t let it frustrate, stress, or ruin us
CHEAT CODE: FOCUS → LET GO → RELEASE ENERGY → DON’T LET IT
The Why
Each day, more is asked of us than we can possibly give.
The demands of our careers will ask us to produce more than we’re able.
The problems in our lives demand skills we never learned.
Having friends, family, and coworkers means there will be conflict.
I see this everywhere I go.
In the people I work with, clients I coach, friends I have, and in my closest family members.
The frustration of not being enough or not having enough doesn’t have to get me to a place of stress, anger, and unhappiness.
I don’t have to let it.
The more I realize I can only know what I know and can only do what I can do, the more I am able to carry only what I’m capable of carrying, and no more.
Anything else results in a lack of performance in the task I should be doing.
At the same time, it makes me less available in the relationships I have because I feel pulled in too many directions.
It’s hard to be kind and present when we’re worried and carrying more than we should.
